Preparations for zee beeg day!

Wednesday, November 22, 2006
Well... not really. But I am up late baking rolls, so that counts right? These are the pictures I've been promising of Val's famous Bread With Salt. Many thanks for posting your recipe Super-Val! And I'm sure you'll be happy to note the looks of well-fed pleasure on my family member's faces. Thank you for your ongoing support and contribution to the welfare of the human race.

Bread with Salt- at it's conception.

Bread with Salt in Utero.

Bread with Salt in it's final perfect form (possibly a little overdue, but the camera always adds a little brown.)

None of these people were prompted to smile while eating said bread. These are all naturally occurring smiles.

This picture has nothing to do with Bread with Salt, but it does have something to do with spilled pumpkin guts. I baked some sugar pumpkins to make into pies, only to find that the mashed up pumpkin insides make pies which turn out shockingly like canned pumpkin guts- 'cept with more work.

You can eat crackers in my bed anytime.

*Disclaimer: I scoff in the face of public humiliation for your everyday humor needs. Besides- if you can't laugh at yourself- you can't laugh at anybody else...er something.*

Last night was not unlike the famed "Robin Egg VS Bed Warmer Incident of 2002". I am notoriously a night eater, and working at night only exacerbates that trait. This morning I vaguely remembered getting up in the night, finding the stash of Swiss Chocolate (Lait Extra Fin) on top of the fridge, and (quite lit'rally) breaking me off a piece of that. One thing led to another, and at about 6:30 AM I was rubbing my eyebrow and cheek wondering what was crumbly all over my face. Upon further inspection, there was half a piece of Swiss (Lait Extra Fin) Chocolate under my pillow- which I promptly consumed.

I needed an excuse to wash the sheets today anyway.

I'm happy today because...

5. My hair is finally long enough to put in a half ponytail.
4. I love jogging in 85 degree weather to Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree
(not that I jog on Sundee).
3. I get to sleep in the non-day tonight.
2. Mike's parents get here in 1 day- and they get to eat fried Turkey this year. I just know they're going to convert. Also Dave is calling his Grandpa Dave "Pata" now- which is adorable.
1. I have the bestest family and friends in the history of all family and friends.

Happy Sabbath!

Another Cryptic Message.

Dave fell asleep with another sign tonight. I just don't get him sometimes.

Samuel Gets His Shrine On.

The most exciting part of the circus, I must say, was Samuel. He made quite the debut in the three rings. The most interesting thing about hanging out with Samuel is that, no matter where you go, everyone notices him. People who normally would pay you no mind are coming up wanting to know "What's that head all about?" He's magnetic. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Bone Junior- your boy is destined for fame.

I have been trying to think of fun things to do with Samuel since I promised my friend Marcus T. that I wouldn't release him until after the BYU football season. Seeing how the Cougs have been on a winning streak since that fateful TCU game, and are now ranked 21st in one of the polls- I think he has become something of a good luck charm. He'll be hanging around 'til after the bowl game in December or January.

This guy wanted to scalp Samuel and use his hair for a toupee.

Me and Samuel posing for a clown button.
I will post a pic of me wearing said button in a later post.

Samuel was on the edge of his seat during the high wire act.
If he had finger nails he would have been biting them.

Those are some funny looking smelling salts.... Hey!!
What are you guys doing??
"Thumbs up" from some fans of the pachyderm persuasion.
This is Marty, the guy who got us the gig and incidentally let Samuel wear his fez.
Thanks Marty!!

My cousin Jacqui, and Samuel with some guys in fezzes.
They all got along splendidly.

Samuel modeling a jester hat at the souvenir stand.
Fetching, isn't he?

And last but not least, Samuel exhibiting some quadraplegic acrobatics with some butterfly wings the rope dancing acrobats use.

Our 1 minute and 40 seconds of fame.

Snot Nosed

Monday, November 13, 2006
For those of you who have made comments in the past about "people who only blog about their snot nosed kids": you may want to click a link on the right hand side of this page and wait a few days to return here. As for the rest of you, I assume you'll be interested to know that...

Dave's nose has been sick for approximately one and one half weeks. (See also previously posted video).

Get Your Cotton Candy On.

My uncle is a Shriner. You know- the guys who wear the funny hats with tassels and drive around in little cars? That's him. My Grandpa did it too. I come from a long line of guys in fezzes. That said- The Shrine Circus is in town. And since my uncle has that funny hat- he basically has all the sweet hookups with the people down at the ol' circus. It's nice to know people in high places.

We walked in to the Will Roger's Coliseum today and it smelled just like the old days- musky elephant and horse poo, mingled with the scent of day old popped corn. The memories came flooding back... no... seriously.

Dave got his first elephant back ride, first pony ride, and first look at the guys in clown suits drinking beer and sitting around a pickle jar that is larger than an adult man. These are my childhood memories that I am passing down to my offspring.

Seriously though, I love the circus. It brings back lots of happy childhood memories. And if you don't go to hear Mike, Michael, Jen and Me sing the National Anthem on Tuesday night, at least go to see the big steel ball that the motorcycle daredevils ride around in (they shoot the guy out of the cannon right after that). National Anthem starts at 7pm Tuesday Night- Will Roger's Coliseum in Fort Worth. Don't be late:)

Better Late Than Never

Google vids works for me now!! So maybe some of you can see my videos that couldn't before. This is the video I tried to post on Halloween. Better late than never I suppose:)

The Day Mike Got His "Gem" Slicked.

Wednesday, November 08, 2006

We had a little mishap with one of our favorite snack foods the other day. Mike purchased some chocolate donut gems for a Sunday morning/afternoon snack on Saturday night. I worked the night before, so Mike was in charge of keeping an eye on and protecting our young lad from danger. Generally Mike is a very attentive parent (probably more so than even me), but on this particular Sunday Mike fell asleep in the living room while Dave was watching one of his kid's shows.
Dave is a tall kid and sometimes we underestimate what he can and can't reach. Even things that are pushed far back on our table often find their way into his mouth. Last Sunday was no exception. Mike woke up to find donut gems crumbled into little piles all over the living room floor, and Dave, smeared with chocolate, happily sitting in front of the TV enjoying his little snack. Even bear-bear had chocolate smudges on his face. At least there were approximately five (5) donut gems left for me when I woke up.
My son is a child after my own heart.

Don't hate me because I'm beta-ful.

I feel victimized, discriminated against, left out... and any other dejected, despondent feeling people get when things don't go their way. I'll admit it- I succumbed to the pressure. I switched to the new Blogger Beta after I saw all the fancy pants stuff it can do. But sometimes I feel left out of the reg'lar-ol-bloggers-club. Here's why: When I go on to a reg'lar-ol-blog to make a comment on something funny or witty a reg'lar-ol'-blogger said, sometimes my fingers get the best of me. The days of AOL instant messenger- type at the speed of light- come flooding back. I type my little musing- only to realize that I have to click on a link that takes me to a whole different screen to log in. Being the computer savvy child of the big-floppy-disk-requiring-Apple-Computer-lab-in-my-elementary-school-90s that I am, I save my work by right clicking and copying my message. Then I click on the link to log in. This is where all control is taken out of my hands and I am left to the mercy of the ever hateful and moody computer gods. Will my page load or not? Do I have to start all over again at my blog, click to the link to your best buddy's link on my blog to click on your link from their blog?? My head hurts just thinking about it. By then I'm too tired to click my mouse and paste anything. I just want to go to bed.

Go ahead. Ask me how hard it is for the reg'lar-ol'-bloggers to comment on my blog. Well, with the little window that allows you to use your Google/Blogger sign on- I'll tell ya- it's not hard at all. Is it too much to ask for a little peace and equality in this world?

By the way, don't forget to vote tomorrow. (Griping and bellyaching: check. Good citizen reminder for the day: check, check.)

New Developments in the Life of One Samuel P. Bone

Sunday, November 05, 2006

Bone Junior- your little boy is really growing up! Sam found this little filly sitting atop our kitchen table one day- and it has been true love since. These two have been inseparable. It's a good thing they don't have appendages, because things could have gotten ugly. Looks like it's about time for that birds n' bees talk Mama Bone.

More Festive Fall Fun

Friday, November 03, 2006

I realize I am backtracking a bit, but I wanted to post some of the cute pictures of the kids and the fun fall stuff we've been doing. The first few pictures are from our day at Mainstay Farm a few weeks ago. They had a big pumpkin patch and a really cool kid's fort. I know it was cool because when we saw it Morgan started dancing around going "Awesome! Awesome! Awesome Pompa! Awesome!". That's the true test of a playground- the Morgan Litmus test.
The rest of the pictures are our pumpkin carving adventure. I forgot how nauseating the smell of pumpkin guts is, but also how fulfilling it is to carve a face into a pumpkin. Why does it feel like you've conquered nature when you do that? I become one with my inner cavewoman whilst carving pumpkins.

The dangerous tree swing. I'm surprised we lived through it.

Happy Day after All Saint's Day

Thursday, November 02, 2006
We had a fun Halloween. Dave and Morgan Trick or Treat-ed around the block- we bobbed for donuts, and then we passed out candy to our ER friends. Samuel joined in the fun, providing decoration for the front porch- He really liked jumping out and scaring all the trick or treaters.

Werewolves!!

Holy Gene Simmons tongue, Michael!

Mike was the "bobbing for donuts" champ! He got skills.

A Security Guard Dog, Pregnant Kitty Cat and TCU Cheerleader.

Samuel, guarding the gate. He dressed up as a mannequin head with a body for Halloween.

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

Passing out treats in the ER (to staff only:)

The Lion and The Wardrobe- all tuckered out from our Halloween fun.
