Mama got runover by a reindeer...

It's true, folks. I have officially been initiated into the club of people who kill animals that are larger than 20 pounds. I went deer hunting without a licence. With my car. Why, you ask?

Not sure cause I don't even like the taste of deer.



I went hunting right in the city, too. I know you thought it was illegal, but when I called the police to tell them what I had done, they didn't even come after me. Not even a phone call back.



I guess they realized that I would have paid my fine by the time all was said and done. $1500 smackeroos, a week car-less, and all I have to show for it is a little tuft of bambi hair.

I don't even have one of those deer heads to mount on my wall.

Wordless Wednesday

Is it just me

Or is being a mother of 2 hard? Or am I just whining? I guess I was out of baby mode too long with Dave and coming back to it has been a little shocking. I think I am mainly just feeling glued to my house (which is tough for me), and trying to get little brother to sleep during the day is interesting at times. So when does it get a little easier, those who have been through it? Any tips for me?

All Hallow's Eve

Dave wanted to be a vampire for Halloween. I was surprised because he hasn't even read Twilight yet. This kid is rockin it old school! Of course my mom whipped out a Dracula cape in about 5 minutes- that paired with some black sweatpants and it was all downhill. Our dear friend Katie gave Paul the Winnie the Pooh costume. He looked like our very own silly ol' teddy bear.

Halloween with 2 kids was "fun" and by fun I mean a tad bit annoying. It was like a circus juggling act to get Dave's hair spray painted- keeping it out of proximity to the baby's lungs, and off Davie's prominent ears . I won't even describe for you how fun it was to get the face paint on a 4 year old. (Keep your head still, please...). We are still figuring out the baby thing, but it seems to be getting a smidge easier. At least the little fella smiles now, amidst all the screaming.

As for Dave- trick or treating without his cousins just didn't hold the same appeal. He did, however, make a killing in candy. Only 'cause the lady at the last house dumped in the whole bowl to get rid of her candy so she could turn out the light. Now that's what I call the jackpot.

What do you do when....

You're stuck at home with a newborn, trying to avoid a pandemic flu for 6 weeks? Well, apparently I online shop. Can't wait to run again (hopefully soon) and have somewhere to wear the snakeskin flats... maybe the pediatrician's office?

Welcome Li'l brotha!

I figured since I'm now a full time milker I should probably update the ol' blog. I've got 12 weeks of devoted time and only going back to work once a week (most likely) will be helpful in me reaching my blogging goals. Who knows- maybe I'll even start checking in on my friend's blogs again. I blame facebook for my neglect, but I promise to do better.

So let me turn over a new leaf with the telling of the birth story of one lil' Mushroom (Dave's choice of name for his new baby brother). As many of you know after many long hours of labor Dave finally emerged through a small incision made in my belly. As the due date of the second child grew nearer, the doc began expecting another large boy- so we decided just to go ahead and schedule another C-section on the little fella's actual due date. It is very weird to go to the hospital just knowing you are going to get your baby out in, oh, 20 minutes or so.

Simultaneously weird is the idea that they are going to take the child out of your body while you are awake, like some sort of med school experiment gone awry.

And so little brother was born, 9lbs 1oz- amazingly the exact same weight as his big brother (though his brother had a half inch on him). He is a sweet little baby with a nice healthy cry. So far his hobbies include suckling, pooping and peeing whenever his little hiney feels the free air, and of course sleeping. I think he's going to make us famous and filthy rich someday.

We decided Dave was ready for a little ballpark magic at Ranger Stadium the other night. He got a new baseball glove for his birthday and was ready to catch a fly ball (from the upper deck).

We had a hot dog, ate a few peanuts- and then...

We walked all the way back to the car in the downpour that wouldn't let up. It was like showering fully clothed, but was actually a really fun time. Goodbye 40 bucks, hello memories!

Baby Bumps

Through my failure to blog, I have also failed to recognize the conception of my best friend's first child! I attended her baby shower this weekend- where I got teary eyed thinking about the possibility of our sons (we are due one month apart) being best friends, or college roommates or mission companions... Congrats to Andi and Adam! Can't wait to meet the little fella!

Imagine being born and raised in Texas and never having been to a rodeo. Odd, I know. Then imagine feeling a little overcome with emotion after the National Anthem (as usual) and almost outright crying when the bareback riders were getting bucked off their horses, and saying, "Oh! Oh!! Oh my gosh!!" when the poor fellows almost got their heads stomped on. It happened to a friend of mine. True story.

What we've been up to: part one

So apparently the fetus is sucking blog creativity out of me. Either that or I have been too busy and too tired to blog. I am getting my normal energy back for a little while, though- so I would like to take this opportunity to try to kick start the olde blog again.

Mike is entering the home stretch of grad school. He started the semester out right by skipping class to rejoin his group, Six Miles Ahead, to sing with grammy award winning Darmon Meader at a Jazz Fest in Salt Lake.


Then, he skipped class to meet me in Florida for Clinical Practice Model conference. These are some of my UBC pals from the other units in the hospital.
We stayed at the Disney Coronado Springs Resort, and although we did not visit any of the actual Disney theme parks, we did get our fill of Mickey. We won't be going back until Dave is about 12.

Apparently where they get the chicken they sell at Disney.

Paradise Island was pretty cool, I'll give them that.

The Resort was nice and a fun place for a conference. The only problem was how expensive everything was and how far one was from anything non-Disney on the resort. There was not even a McDonalds within walking distance (not that I endorse McDonalds). It was sort of like a Disney prison camp- minus the guards with guns and barbed wire. And with hot tubs.

And a sweet heated pool with a replicated Mayan ruin pyramid waterfall.

And Cuban food. So really, not a half bad prison camp.

Then we headed to Clearwater Florida where we ate lots and lots of fried fish and drank frozen fruity drinks on the beach and read books. It was really wonderful. I would like to go parasailing there someday... when it's not quite so chilly.

We saw the Orlando temple on the morning before we left and it, too was gorgeous.
