Free avocados and a hint.

I got free avacados at the local grocer yesterday. The price for large avacados was marked differently in two separate spots. I assumed one kind was large and one was, maybe, extra large. The cashier lady tried to argue with me, but I went back myself to check. Luckily the manager was there and he declared that I should have my 3 avacados free because the price was posted wrong. I wished I had originally wanted to buy a whole case.

I have been pretty lucky lately- free camera and free avocados. I think this is my year. Too bad it's almost over.

Here's your hint for winning a fabulous fall prize: two thirds of my head. Dave recognizes me in this picture by my mole (but for my sake let's call it a beauty mark). Also this is my hot cousin Janine, but she has nothing to do with my costume (except that she's standing close to it).

Boo! It's a... wedding.

My cousin got married this weekend with one of the most unique themes I have ever witnessed for a wedding. Halloween. Counter intuitive, I know. But it was really fun. And the best part was we all got to "dress up" for the reception- not just the bride and groom.


If you didn't read the comments on the last post- I sort of haphazardly decided to hold a contest for the person who can guess my costume based on my dyed orange tights and shoes. I will choose the prize based on age, gender, relationship to me and how well I know you. But I'm getting sort of excited about the prize ideas I have floating around in my head, so I hope you will all participate. Anyway- enjoy the pictures- and I'll post pictures of the reception after the contest ends (ie: after someone guesses correctly). If no one guesses it right- I'll post hints. Good Luck!

A child after my own heart.

Have you ever seen a two year old ask for "More!" of something green and chunky? Dave does it with guacamole. He even bypassed the chips this time and shoveled it directly into the mouth.

Ten things I love about the Texas State Fair (what's not to love?)

1. Unlimited scarfing of the food- fried and otherwise (but mostly fried).

Striking family resemblance- no?
2. A huge hand carved sculpture made entirely of... you guessed it... butter.

3. Elsie the Borden cow and her baby. Also in this category- the smell of cow poop mingled with the smell of boiling lard used for frying millions of corn dogs and other assorted fried stuff.
4. Two words: Pig Races.

5. Free Lonestar concert... well... for the price of admission, but you know what I mean.6. Getting in line multiple times for free ice cream "samples" (a free soft serve cone).
7. The ostrich that tried to kill Dave- and the sound of the other child who also suffered an ostrich abrasion to the hand begging her dad to "Go and KILL THAT OSTRICH!". Only in Texas, folks.

8. Fletcher's cheesy jalapeno corny dogs. The best in the world. No disputations please.

9. Big Tex- who incidentally creeped Dave out. Wonder why?

Tagged.. again?

I have been "tagged" in such a way that I must now share six fun fascinating facts about myself, lest the virtual gun pointed at my head by virtual Bone Junior be fired in a deadly game of virtual Russian Roulette. That being said, here are my fun facts.

1. I saved a child from being eaten by a ferocious wild animal today. The child was my own and the animal was an ostrich. That was in a cage. And really the ostrich only pecked at my child's hand. It was still scary, though.

2. Swine racing is my favorite sport. Today was the first race I've ever been to, but I maintain that it is my favorite. Except for BYU football.

3. I think it's really funny when people get hit in the head unexpectedly with lightweight items (e.g. gum wrappers and paper airplanes- now that's comedy).

4. My second toe is longer than my first.

5. I consumed 15X the recommended daily allowance of trans and saturated fat today. The major part of this fat was consumed in the form of corn dogs. The lesser part consisted of chili, cheese, free ice cream samples, and fried cookie dough.

6. I will, most likely, at some point require a tummy tuck, liposuction and a varicose vein laser- due to the fat and calories consumed today.

Lucky Day

It was like Christmas at our house a few days ago when the UPS man rang the doorbell. Of course I was half dressed (aren't you always half dressed when the UPS man rings your doorbell?), so Mike politely signed for the parcel. Realizing it was a prize from one of the booths I registered at during the ENA conference, I ripped open the package thinking it might be the Coach bag from one of the booths...

But, alas it was none other than our very own teeny tiny Elph camera. We were excited because it's smaller and handier than our camera that we've had for a few years. We were also excited because we won.

So of course- I had to try it out at some place fabulous like the Dallas World Aquarium today. Lots of fun, fishy odor and a shark and sting ray tunnel that will blow your mind. Thanks Rhiannon and Cameron for a fun filled day in the big D.

I wore this shirt to the pumpkin patch and dinner tonight. The guy handed me my chicken fajitas and asked "Why is Saturday a special day?". Caught off-guard (though I'm not sure why I didn't expect someone to ask that question) I shrugged and replied, "Because it's the day we get ready for Sunday."

He still looked confused.

Indian Summer

I'm not sure what exactly that means, but it is still pretty warm down here in good old Texas. Warm enough to use the slip n slide yesterday (although our nights are cooling off). As you can see a good time was had by all (and nothing feels better than a cool, squishy, wet wedgie butt).

that I have fallen off blogger earth. But so have some of the rest of you so I don't feel so bad. I was looking for a new template for ye olde blog now that blogger is getting more user friendly, but I don't know how some of you find these fancy schmancy blog templates. Please- let me in the loop. I want a cool blog. I want to be one of the cool kids...

Hi everyone. I'm not dead. just busy planning the next event. My friend's and cousin's bridal showers are both this week and I am hosting and co-hosting them, respectively. Luckily I am only working tonight this week and taking the rest of the week off for mental health, sanity and party planning.

Anywho- Salt Lake was a blast. The weather was perfect for most of our days and perfectly not-so-perfect our last couple. I learned a ton and the conference was surprisingly inspiring. It was at the Salt Palace- a vast building that I have never been into- only seen driving by in downtown Salt Lake. We ate some awesome food including (but not limited to) Red Rock's chicken schnitzel, Vienna Bistro's apple strudel, Market Street Grill's amazing seafood, Cafe Molise's excellent roasted salmon and eggs benedict on an english muffin for brunch, and of course my favorite The Pie Pizzeria's famous pizza pie. If you live in or are visiting the area you should visit any or all of these fine establishments. They made me want to quit my job and start cooking for a living.

I went on a fabulous night run through downtown with my little brother Jacob (a dream I've had since pondering those city lights from the 5th floor of LDS hospital a few years ago). We got to see snow- and check out Park City. The cherry on top of everything was seeing The Mo-Tab at the tabernacle for Music and The Spoken Word a few hours before departing.

My travels are over for a while, though, and I am looking forward to spending some time at home and hanging out with the guys. Enjoy the pictures!
